I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town
Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, fuggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for
my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)
Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)
Well, I love that dirty water (I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water (I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water (Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water (I'm the man, I'm the man)
I love that dirty water (Owww!)
I love that dirty water (Come on, come on)
Good German food at Jacob Wirth's in the Theater District (one of the oldest restaurants in the city...great sausage)
The Boston Beer Works (right near Fenway and there's also one down by the TD BankNorth Garden and North Staton) has great beer and good food. Try the Mako Shark Sticks (shark-meat on skewers).
And as you know, I love Legal Sea Foods tho it's pricey there are two in Bahston.
The Quincy Market restaurants are generally over-rated and over-priced. I don't like that whole area in general :)
Walkies:
The Public Garden (Arlington and Boyleston), and the Boston Common are worth visiting.
from there walk up Commonwealth Avenue or Newbury Street to Mass. Ave. Thats' two of my favorite walks.
Back Bay is a grid. "A"rlington, "B"oyleston, "C"larendon, "D"artmouth, "E"xeter, "F"airfield, "G"loucester, "H"ereford, "I"pswich, "J"ersey, "K"enmore.....
Newbury Comics (Newbury St. between Mass Ave and Hereford St.
the Smoot Bridge (the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge over the Charles River)
Hahvahd is worth seeing. Red line to Harvard Square or walk straight over the river Mass Ave past MIT til you hit it. Also Central Square in Cambridge is neat.
If you don't mind all the tourists and want some serious exercise, the Freedom Trail (starts at Park Street Under Subway and ends across the river on Bunker Hill. Great exercise but takes all day!
The old branch of the Boston Public Library (the end facing Copley Square) is spectacular. Cigar Masters (good cigar bar, yay) is across the street by the Pizzeria Uno (ecch)
The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is on the E line of the Green T trains across from Northeastern University.
Finally if the Boston Symphony Orch. is in town (http://www.bso.org) there are "rush tickets" available at 3pm day of performance.
BTW that song was written by a guy who got mugged down by the Charles River. It's "Dirty WateR" by the Standells and it's practically the national anthem of the city.
Safe travels and much love,
See you at BR.
